Wow! We cannot believe we are in our last week of school of 2019! What an amazing 4 months we have had so far in Grade 3! Here is a little of what we are working on this week: Literacy: Math: We have been applying our addition and subtraction skills to solving different kinds of math problems. We have been working with groups and on our own. We have also been practicing our mental math skills by completing KenKen Puzzles. Social Studies: We are using the research we did last week on an animal from India to create an animal fact sheet, like we would see at the zoo for our animal. We are using Adobe Spark to create our posters and checking our success criteria to ensure we have included all the information required. We will also be wrapping up our India study with a feast on Thursday. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to send in a dish! This has been a busy week getting ready for the Christmas Concert. We can't wait for you to see the show! In our classroom this week we have been working on the following: Math: applying our addition and subtraction skills to solving word problems Social Studies: we chose 1 animal from India and have been doing research about that animal. Later in the week we are going to use Adobe Spark to create in infographic about our animal like you would see at the zoo. Writing: we brainstormed ideas about what we would see at Santa's workshop then wrote a paragraph titled, 'On my trip to the North Pole' Reminders: - The doors for the Concert will open at 4:30 on Wednesday. Students will come to the classroom first, then if they are an actor and/or in choir, they will move to their designated meeting spot. The concert will start promptly at 5:00. Students have been learning about the WE organization and so far we have collected $390.57 to donate. Our goal is $475 which would allow us to donate a farm animal bundle to a family. Here is a quick update on what we will be doing this week at school: Literacy: Students are working on spelling rules ending with 'or' and 'er', we are going to do some descriptive writing using connections Science: Students will be continuing our 'Hearing and Sound' unit and will be introduced to Scratch to create sound through coding Social Studies: wrapping up our study of India, learning about the charity WE and will have a special guest speaker in to share about her visits to India Math: introducing increasing patterns Christmas Concert Info: Students are still very busy preparing for our Christmas concert.
