Week of Jan 6

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a fun and restful break!

Here is an overview of what we will be looking at this week:

Literacy:
- We started a new read aloud called, 'The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell' by Chris Colfer. Students made a lot of predictions based on the cover art. Ask your child what was on the cover. So far we have met 2 well known characters...
- We started learning about handwriting today! We are learning to write and recognize our names in cursive and today we learned how to write the lower case 'c'. Students are VERY excited to learn to handwrite!
- We discussed New Year's Resolutions and set goals into our IRIS accounts, ask about what our goals that we will be monitoring for the next 6 weeks.

Math:
- We are reviewing addition and subtraction and will be continuing to explore increasing patterns.

Social Studies:
- We are going to start our study of our second country, Peru! If you have any artifacts or special items from Peru, please let Miss Kowal know!

Science:
- We are starting to dive deeper into our Hearing and Sound Science unit and we will spend the next month or so exploring how sounds are made, the differences in animal hearing, unique ways of sensing vibrations and using the scientific method to conduct our own experiments by generating a hypothesis and recording our observations.
